Terms & Conditions

These terms set out the working agreement between you and Jane Ross, Person-Centred Counsellor & Psychotherapist, for the provision of counselling and psychotherapy services. By booking a session, you agree to these terms.

Therapy can be short-term or long-term — the number of sessions is entirely within your control, and we can discuss what works best for you when we first meet.

Sessions

Sessions are a full hour and are available in person at 3 Coates Place, Edinburgh EH3 7AA, or by telephone or online.

I ask that we meet weekly where possible, as regular sessions help create a sense of continuity and safety, though this can be adapted to suit your circumstances.

Fees and Payment

Current fees are published on the Fees page. Fees are reviewed from time to time, and any change will be discussed with you in advance of it taking effect.

Payment is due before or at the start of each session, unless another arrangement has been agreed with me directly.

Cancellations and Missed Sessions

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please give me at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. This allows me to offer the slot to someone else who needs it.

Late cancellations, with less than 24 hours’ notice, may be charged in full at the cost of the session.

If you forget to attend a session, or don’t let me know about an emergency, this is treated as a missed session and charged in full at my hourly rate.

If a pattern of recurring last-minute cancellations emerges, we will review our work together and agree a way forward that suits us both.

If we're able to reschedule to the following week due to a genuine emergency, there will be no charge for the missed session.

If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact me as soon as possible and I will do my best to find a solution that works for both of us.

Confidentiality

Your confidentiality is central to our work together. The exceptions to confidentiality, including where I may be required to break confidence, are set out in full in my Confidentiality Policy.

Data Protection

Details of how I collect, use and store your personal information are set out in my Privacy Policy.

Professional Standards

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), membership 421262, and I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I attend regular clinical supervision to support the quality and safety of my practice.

Ending Therapy

You are free to end therapy at any time. Where possible, I would encourage having a final session together to bring our work to a close, but this is entirely your choice.

Complaints

If you have any concerns about our work together, please raise them with me directly in the first instance so I have the opportunity to address them.

If a concern relates to my professional conduct and remains unresolved, you may contact the BACP. If a concern relates to your personal data, you may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — details are in my Privacy Policy.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland.

Changes to These Terms

These terms are reviewed periodically. Version 1.0, effective from September 2026.
